Scottish Canals were entirely satisfied with the central rail anchor system manufactured and installed by Laurasia Engineering Limited at the Falkirk Wheel Boatlift, Falkirk. The Falkirk Wheel is a unique structure and as such presented unique engineering challenges. The rail sets and central anchor design are unique in that they are fitted to a rotating structure and support two water-filled gondolas which travel over the circular rail sets with a radius of 4400mm. The anchor materials were manufactured on time and to specification. During installation issues outside Laurasia Engineering Limited's work scope presented challenges and potential delays. Laurasia Engineering Limited's actions working with both client and designers,ensured that potential impact on program of these engineering changes was minimised. To this effect the project was completed early and to specification. Scottish Canals would be happy to consider Laurasia Engineering Limited for future projects.
